The beach. Yes. Somewhere most people would be in the summer. Actually, it’s almost everyone. It’s now winter in New Jersey and the beach might not be crowded. In fact, it would be real calm and peaceful. Nobody goes to the beach in winter. It’s cold and people basically can do nothing in there. But today wasn’t any other day for Valerie. She wasn’t in the mood to hang out with her friends and she just wanted to go somewhere peaceful and quiet. Beach might be the most appropriate place for her to be in at this moment. She was basically feeling real sick. Not so serious kind of fever and some cough. She won’t be able to talk much too because she was losing some voice and that’s what keeping her away from talking with anyone.
She went into her closet and picked up some clothes to put on. She was wearing a tee shirt, jacket, shorts and sports shoes. No thick jacket or boots. No bags, no mobile phones. She would refuse talking to anyone today, because she was totally not in the mood. She hated to be sick and especially serious ones when she should actually go to the hospital. Hospital sucks. She hated the smell, the tools, the doctors and the nurses, the bed and the room. It was just somewhere she wouldn’t want to be. She didn’t care at all walking down the streets in just something super thin. She cares no more about being sick tomorrow. What else could be worse? She was already sick. And she was someone who didn’t care for herself although she might care for others.
She left her house which she lived by herself, all alone. Her mother had died and she obviously didn’t want to live with her father. He just wouldn’t stop abusing her since her mother committed suicide. He once even tried cutting her left arms which failed but still, leaving a small cut on her arms. That was something she would never forget and something she hated her father so much for.
Trying to get all those bad memories out of her head, she headed for the door and left for the beach. The beach wasn’t located anywhere near her house and she had always refused to buy herself a car although she could afford to buy one. Camden is just a small town after all. She could just hire a cab if she didn’t feel like walking. After walking quite a distance, she decided to take the cab. It was getting colder and she was getting tired. She checked her pockets to make sure she had her purse with her and to her surprise; she had forgotten to bring it with her. She walked and walked again until she had finally arrived.
It was a long journey and her feet were probably swollen. She would have probably open her shoes, but in this time, no way. Her feet would be frozen. It’s damn cold out there. She laid herself on the sandy beach. She was so exhausted after the long walk and couldn’t imagine that she had to walk the same distance back to her house. She stretched her feet on the sand. There was nobody out there except for a couple of people. She closed her eyes as she feels the wind blowing. It was relaxing.
